The Benefits Outweigh the Risks

We are now at the end of December. Flu season is upon us, and I would say that prevention is the best way to keep yourself healthy during this time. One of the best ways to lessen your risk of getting sick is by strengthening your immune system. I myself prefer a more natural preventative measure, such as a supplement as an immune booster. Some of these supplements come in tablets or capsules, while others are in liquid form, which can be bitter in taste. A family member of mine recently stated that they would prefer not to take a supplement that is in liquid form due to its taste, while another stated that she hates taking pills. My argument was that if it helped, then why not push through the nasty taste for a brief second. The benefits of taking the supplement outweigh the risk. Once you get past the taste, which is for a brief second, you are now potentially protected from getting sick. It made me think of how this can be applied to our walk with the Lord. While we know that there are things we can do to assist us in our growth, we tend to either avoid them or choose other things over them for various reasons such as laziness, distractions, inconvenience, boredom, and many other reasons. Once this is done continuously, then we find ourselves struggling with the same old habits and not growing and maturing in the things of the Lord. One example of this would be reading the Bible. I have moments when I do not feel like reading and instead find myself wanting to binge on a good show or movies. I know that if I allow this to become a habit, I am risking becoming stagnant and lazy and not ever moving forward in all that the Lord has for me. Reading the Bible at times may not be so exciting, but the Lord reminds me that the benefit of reading outweighs the risk of missing out on an episode of my favorite show. What has helped me is finding creative ways to stay in the word, such as listening to the Bible on my phone app, watching sermons tailored towards a topic of my interest in the Bible, and reading from devotionals that incorporate scriptures for me to meditate on throughout the day. I encourage you to push through those moments of weariness, sluggishness, or even laziness. Continue to pursue all that the Lord has for you and remain steadfast. It may seem to be an inconvenience, but I promise you, you are helping yourself by doing what is meant to strengthen you and your spiritual immune system. Once you get the word of God in your heart, you will find a verse come to mind in those moments of hardships or spiritual attacks.
______________
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105 NKJV
Blessings,
