Holy is the Lord, God Almighty

Exodus 4:24-26 had me thinking about the Holiness of God. The first time reading through this passage I thought, wow, God's dealing with Moses was pretty rough, and some may say it was harsh. After all this was the same Moses he had called to deliver the Israelites out of bondage. After getting more of a background on this passage I learned that God's response was due to Moses neglecting to circumcise His son, which traces back to the covenant that God made with Abraham and his descendants. Moses (the lawgiver) appeared to have been breaking the law (Leviticus 12:3). After Moses wife Zipporah's obedience to this rite, God had mercy on Him. After learning this I begin to think about the magnitude of God's holiness. His holiness is shown In Exodus 3 vs. 5 where God had Moses remove his shoes because he was stepping on holy ground. I also begin to think about how no one can see the face of God and live, and the simple fact that sacrifices were needed to cleanse the people from their sins. These observations speak volume to how Holy our God is and the need for redemption. Although it may seem harsh that our God was willing to bring death to the one who He had chosen, we have to remember how merciful He is and His grace that always existed. Our Heavenly Father already had a plan to redeem us which is an indication of His love, mercy and grace. He sent His one and only son Jesus to once and for all redeem us from the law and to be our mediator. This selfless act removed  the sacrifices and rituals that were required for us to stand in His presence. Yes our God is Holy but now we are to be holy. We are guiltless, & acceptable to God because of what Jesus did for us and His spirit that lives in us. Praise God we have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb (Jesus).
